Dear Webmasters,

Any idea what Tuc's leading ladies like Erika Slezak think of working with him?

-R.C.

Dear R.C.,

Ms. Slezak has said recently of Tuc, "Tuc is one of the most delightful people that God has ever put on this earth--one of the most charming and talented actors. It was so much fun playing those scenes with him because he is inventive, he is clever, and, as I said, he is so talented. He brings so much to every scene, and most of what you see on screen was created by the actors--by Tuc. You know, it's there in the writing a little bit, but most of it is what Tuc brings to the scenes. I miss him, and I'm hoping he will come back frequently--often, often, often!!!"

Dear Webmasters,

Just heard the great news that Tuc will be on Desperate Houswives! I loved watching him over the years on One Life to Live. He's such a great actor. He was very underrated and underappreciated as David Vickers! I can't wait for the new season of Desperate Housewives to see Tuc!

-M.

Dear M.,

You're not the only one who feels that way. We'll keep you posted as the news comes in.

Dear Webmasters,

Oh dear!!! I am so sad but also so happy. I LOVE David on One Life -- I am dearly going to miss him. : - ( However, I will now start watching Housewives because I have got to have my David/Tuc fix. I am happy I will be able to see his wonderful acting on a regular basis. Just love him.

-D.

Dear D.,

We can't wait 'til those new episodes of Housewives either! As they say: Stay Tuned.

THE FOLLOWING IS A COMPILATION OF POSTINGS AND E-MAILS TO US FROM TUC FANS THAT WE RECEIVED IN SEPTEMBER, 2005 IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING TUC'S CLOSE CALL ON JETBLUE FLIGHT 292:

one-life-lover:
OMG!!!!! I can't believe it. I was watching The Today Show this morning crying because I felt so bad for those people on that Jet Blue flight, unable to land becuase of problems with the landing gear. They were watching themselves flying over Los Angeles on satellite TV for 3 hours listening to the profesionals comentary on what could go wrong when they land. I can't even imagine the hell that these people went through & I'm shocked to hear that one of our stars was on board. I'm so glad that Tuc is ok....or I guess as ok as you can be after something like that.

nikkiww:
How scary for all the passengers. I was just cringing and praying watching that landing. Thank God they are all ok.

Jersey Girl:
I was so thankful that everything turned out ok for the passengers and crew. I was watching the news before the landing and had to change the channel during the landing, I was so scared. Thank goodness it turned out ok.

Miranda:
OMG!!! I am SO happy that he's okay. We could've lost him!!!!! I can only imagine what those people were feeling for those 3 hours! The pilots did an amazing job landing and I am very grateful that Tuc is okay. (and everyone else for that matter).

Jennifer:
I am still in shock! Thank god everything turned out ok!

Heather:
I love Tuc and david so much. I am glad that he was ok and the rest of the passangers were too!!!

Diane:
Really, really glad he got back safely--I am so afraid to be on an airplane!!

Grandmere123:
thank God, at least one tragedy was averted....

Barbados6787:
OMG! I JUST saw him on The View and I cried like a baby! THANK YOU GOD for sparring his life as well as the other beautiful lives on that plane! This was "2" MIRACLES performed by God that I have seen this year when it comes to plane crashes. The 1st being Flight 358 from Paris which crash landed in Toronto in August and ALL 309 people survived! God IS Good! I LOVE YOU TUC!!!!!!!!!!!

fan954:
Just makes you want to go hug that wonderful captian who got that plane down safely.
MissPunkinseed:
OMG! Thank God he and everyone else was spared. What with all of the other tragedies that we have been dealing with lately, that would have been just one more thing to make us very sad.

TrippinKPJ:
Wow. I'm so glad every thing turned out okay on that one.

Countess2:
I shudder at the thought of losing Tuc--for my soap...and for the whole world too! I'm glad everything turned out fine. My husband flies constantly for business. He has a lot of stories, so I'm pretty desensitized, but YIKES!!

OBSERVER:
Thank Goodness that Tuc and all the passnger and crew came through tie emergency landing.

Dear Tuc Fans,
Yes, Tuc is safe and sound. For Tuc's take on the whole thing, read the transcript from his recent visit to The View.

Hi, Keepers of the Tuc site:

A few days ago I had an audition for "Millionaire" while I was visiting New York from Atlanta. I got to the ABC Studios way too early so I decided to kill time at the Starbucks across the street. While sitting there, I look out the window and see Tuc Watkins crossing the street to come on in! I decided to wait until after he got his order before approaching him, he was extremely charming and perhaps stunned to find a fan who knew so much of his work. I did ask him if there would indeed be a Beggars & Choosers DVD set, he said he had heard buzz about it for a while but nothing recently. We chatted some more, I told him where I was headed, he wished me the best of luck.

When I got into the audition (and after I passed the test), the staff member who did the interview commented on how I seemed all aglow when I walked in. I told her about just having met one of my favorite actors a few minutes earlier, and she thought the fact that a 40-something guy who followed ABC soaps (and didn't mind admitting it) was great and wrote that in her notes. I won't hear for a week if I made it into the contestant pool, but somehow having met Tuc wouldn't make that day a waste in any sense. (And yes, I confessed to him how often I had seen the Gravity Edge infomercial... )

-C.C.

Dear C.C.,

Thanks for your message. It's always great to hear about another great Tuc encounter!

One Year Later:
Dear Webmasters,

Hello you fellow Tuc fans! I don't know whether it was determination from having met Tuc before my "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" try-out, but I set out to see if somewhere on the web I could find one of those obscure Tuc movies. No such luck on those, but I did manage to come across a pristine copy of the legendary Gravity Edge infomercial and I posted it on youtube! Click Here to watch it!

C.C.

Dear C.C.,

Thanks!

Dear Webmasters,

I had the opportunity to meet Tuc last October at a Halloween party. What a nice guy. I told him how much I'm going to miss him on the show since he's one of my favorite charaters. He was gracious and said he appreciated the support. The show definitely won't be the same without him. I wish him nothing but the best and I have no doubt we'll end up seeing him again in the near future.

L. O.

Dear L.O.,

But was it a costume party? You didn't say. Dyin' to know what he wore. Hope you had fun.

Dear Webmasters,

Are you in touch with Tuc? Did you ever see the infomercial he did for an exercise machine before he ever did soaps? I wonder if that's how he was "discovered." Is it a coincidence that both he and Alexis Arquette are in I Think I Do AND Beggars and Choosers, or were they cast by the same person? Any idea how he got the scar on his cheek? I wonder if that was written into the script of Beggars when he told Wayne his father had held his hand when he got 16 stitches after his brother threw a baseball bat at his head...guess not, if he only had a sister...

S. H.

Dear S. H.,

Yes, Tuc has been in contact with us and he is aware of the site, although he doesn't appear to have any interest in putting up anything "official" at this time. We, of course, will respect his wishes and hope that this unofficial site will be the next best thing for his many fans.

As for the exercise machine infomercial, this is one of the most asked questions we hear from Tuc's fans. The infomercial advertised a product called the Gravity Edge. Tuc played a motocross racer who is approached by a man who wants to sponsor him. First though, this sponsor sends Tuc to meet with his daughter (who is a personal trainer) to build his body up. The infomercial also starred Lorenzo Lamas as the celebrity spokesperson and was most likely made in 1992.

Is it a coincidence that Tuc and Alexis Arquette were cast for both I Think I Do and Beggars & Choosers? No, it isn't. Joel Thurm, the casting director of B & C had seen I Think I Do, and brought both Tuc and Alexis in to meet Peter Lefcourt. Our sources tell us that Tuc first met Peter Lefcourt when he auditioned for the already-written part of Malcolm Laffley.

As for the scar on Tuc's cheek, your theory sounded like a good one, but here's the real story: While Tuc was at Indiana University in 1987, a friend of his accidentally hit him in the face with the blunt end of a Coke bottle. It knocked him out cold. It was serious enough that Tuc needed nine stitches! Ouch.

Dear Webmasters,

Hi...I think Tuc was really great on OLTL and have been a fan of his for years. Do you have an address for fan mail? Thanks.

K.

Dear K.,

You can try writing to him at the following official OLTL address:

Mr. Tuc Watkins
c/o One Life To Live
ABC Daytime
56 West 66th Street
New York, NY 10023

Even though Tuc is no longer on OLTL regularly, over the years ABC has always been really good about forwarding anything they receive for him. Good luck!

Dear Webmasters,

Do you know where I can get a copy of The Thin Pink Line?

J.

Dear J.,

We're sorry to say that The Thin Pink Line is virtually impossible to get. It played a few film festivals in the United States a few years ago. It was also released theatrically in Japan and on DVD, due to the popularity in that country of one of the film's stars, Jason Priestley. However, we understand that the Japanese DVD is now out of print, and isn't likely to play on most U.S. DVD players even if you were able to lay your hands on a copy (it's regionally encoded to play only on Japanese or region-free machines). If The Thin Pink Line or Can't Stop Dancing, Tuc's other "lost" indie film, ever makes it to wider release, we'll definitely report that news on our homepage. And if anybody out there hears any news on either of these films that we've failed to report, please drop us a line. We'd definitely like to get our hands on copies ourselves.

Dear Webmasters,

Hello...is Tuc Watkins married? If so...does he have any children?

M.S.

Dear M.S.,
Hi there. No, Tuc is not married. No children either. Thanks for writing.

Dear Webmasters,

I can't believe that Beggars & Choosers was canceled! Too sad---but I vote that Tuc become Will's love interest on Will & Grace. It can be called Will & Malcolm!

L.

Dear L.,

Yes, all good things must come to an end. B&C aired its last original episode in the U.S. in February, 2001. We had gotten word from the show's creator, Peter Lefcourt, that the first season of Beggars & Choosers, was to have been scheduled for release back in January, 2006. Mr. Lefcourt has recently done the DVD commentary, along with Brian Kerwin and a few of the directors, on the pilot and two of the episodes. Unfortunately, Buena Vista Home Video continues to postpone the scheduled release of the DVD of Season One of "Beggars & Choosers" indefinitely. Here's further explanation from Mr. Lefcourt's website: "I had reported here earlier that we had done DVD commentary on some episodes and that BVHV has slated the release for January. I will continue to pester them to release the DVDs, but as we know, the DVD market for TV episodes is both a little saturated and a little soft at the moment: those shelves at Target are sagging under the weight of unsold episodes of old TV shows. So we have to wait until someone deems it financially advantageous to spend the money to release the DVDs. If you'd like to try to help get them out of captivity in Burbank, you can write to: Buena Vista Home Video, 3900 W. Alameda, Burbank, CA 91505 and badger them. Tell them that you had been planning on ordering a dozen of them for Martin Luther King or President's Day."

Dear Webmasters,

GIVE THE MAN A LEADING ROLE! How stupid can people be? If I ever make a movie, guess who I'm gonna ask?

I. K.

Dear I. K.,

We couldn't have said it better ourselves! Tuc most recently appeared in Robert DeNiro's latest film, The Good Shepherd. Tuc appears in two scenes about 1 hour into the movie. His part is crucial to plot line, though the audience never quite sees him face on. He plays a Sound Technical Officer who helps to pinpoint a mole in the CIA from the sound on a grainy filmstrip. So he's got his head turned towards a big sound machine during both scenes. You only see him in profile, but you see his hands a lot, turning the sound machine's knobs, but to us, Tuc's always a stand out.

Dear Webmasters,

Huge fan and just received a photo from him, he makes me laugh and there is nothing better. Do you think he improvises? I hope so, that would tell a lot about him.

M.

Dear M.,

We can confirm that Tuc's a very funny guy in person, and it sure looked like he improvised some of those zingers he delivered on One Life To Live, didn't it? But on a Soap Talk appearance he taped with co-star Robin Strasser back in 2005, both Tuc and Robin reported that they do not improvise on the dialogue they are given. They said that they often rehearse a lot to make sure that they deliver their lines for maximum effect, and they also feel comfortable suggesting things to the writers and directors of the show before scenes are filmed. But once those cameras start rolling, they both delivered their lines as written.

Dear Webmasters,

Tuc was an absolute delight at Super Soap Weekend in Orlando last year! It was the first time I had ever seen him in person. As he walked up to the autograph location, he literally took my breath away. He is just absolutely stunning! And that charisma just oozes out of him! By the way, he had on the neatest looking shoes! He was very personable and oh darn, the lady taking
pictures had trouble figuring out my camera so we just stood there with his arm around me waiting. He said, "I guess we're frozen in time," and then laughed.

At the media interview, when asked how he felt about the "Livid" fans, he was unaware of the nickname for Lindsey and David, but said "Livid, I like it!", then went on to say he felt that the writers were going for adversaries instead of love interests where they were concerned. He was also asked about Dorian. Tuc said he felt that David and Dorian would always care about one another but their love would be on the outskirts and never part of a main storyline.

Tuc was a very welcome last minute addition to SSW. And I look forward to seeing him on OLTL even more!

L.M.

Dear L.M.,

What a great story of your Tuc encounter....and thanks for sharing your fan picture!

Dear Webmasters,

I am an old childhood friend of Tuc's from Kansas and it is such a joy to see him earning the praise he deserves. He is a wonderful, sweet, talented man with a huge heart. Keep up the good work!

K.M.

Dear Webmasters,

Just wanted to drop you a line to say that I was good friends with Tuc in college, and he's a great guy to know. Couldn't think of a nicer person more deserving of the success he's had. Keep up the good work on the site!

J.S.

Dear K.M. and J.S.,

Thank you both for the feedback. You're not alone. We've heard from people who have known Tuc either from high school, college, or from working with him as an actor, and the personal opinions always amount to the same thing: Tuc Watkins is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Although we put this page together in order to highlight Tuc's work and career, the fact that everything seems to indicate that he also happens to be a swell guy is a great bonus for us.

About five years ago we happened to meet Tuc out in Los Angeles for the first time. What was he like? Well, even before he realized who we were, he was incredibly nice. Very polite, very gracious, and, yes, even better looking in person.

Dear Webmasters,

I've seen that you are suprised that people from South Africa are also writing. Yep, Beggars and Choosers is screened here as well (on Mondays and Tuesdays 21h30 on SABC 2, even following Will and Grace on SABC 3 on Mondays), and it made a Monday night at home a special treat. Unfortunately, the show recently ended here as well. Hopefully there will be another series that we haven't seen yet.

We are well aware of Tuc's great performances, especially in The Mummy since Arnold Vosloo from SA plays the Mummy.

We surely hope to see more of Tuc in the future, and perhaps even a trip to the most beautiful country in the world! He MUST come and visit the mother city, Cape Town!

Greetings, and keep up the good work.

T-C

Dear T-C,

Of course we know that Arnold Vosloo is from South Africa (notwithstanding the fact that some Americans seem to confuse him with Billy Zane from Titanic), but thanks for letting us know how beautiful South Africa is.

Dear Webmasters,

Just wanted to express my gratitude for the learning of some interesting tidbits on Tuc Watkins from this site and only from the mailbag section! Beggars & Choosers is broadcast (well, in reruns now) here in Israel on a little satellite channel that I watch a lot, so I knew his face from all the B&C promos (didn't care much about the show though). Then I happened to watch I Think I Do, and I just adored this sweet comedy, so I gradually started watching B&C, till I got hooked recently, primarily, I think, because of Tuc and Malcolm's storyline. Too bad I found there are only a few more eps to be broadcast (I started in the last eps of the 2nd season), so I hope they'll have another spin of re-runs. Sorry for all the mistakes and clumziness in this e-mail, but it's really late now and I'm crushed. Anyway, congrats on this neatly-made page you made, and thanx!

D.

Dear D.,

Thank you for your e-mail, and don't worry, your English is just fine!

Dear Webmasters,

Hi, your website is so good! I LOVE Tuc! He's just great! The pictures are great! I love it all! I was just wondering if you knew of a site with One Life To Live transcripts from when Tuc was on? I have been looking everywhere, but cannot find any! The pictures you have from when he was on just makes me want to read them! Also, I love David Vickers! He is just so funny, handsome you name it! I like David with Dorian, and I was wondering if you also knew a site for them? Thanks for your time, and I hope you can e-mail me back!

B.

P.S. Keep up the good work on the site!! I go there everyday!

Hi B.,

Thanks for your e-mail. We're glad you like the site so much. As far as we know, there aren't any transcript sites that go as far back as Tuc's first run on OLTL. But there is an OLTL history page that might give you a general idea of how David Vickers first came to Llanview and started stirring up trouble. Just click here to jump to that site. Tuc's original run on OLTL fell between 1994 and 1996. He also returned to the show briefly between October 2001 and November 2001, then again between January 2002 and February 2002. SoapCentral has some great daily recaps from that time period.

Hope that catches you up.

Dear Webmasters,

Thank you for putting this site together. It's a real treat. I just did a search while watching him in The Mummy on television and was surprised to find that, indeed, he did have a loyal fan base and that he was the same actor from I Think I Do that I found so interesting. Also the screensaver is great. I'd love to see one done using some of the other photos you have on your website. Any chance of doing an additional one? Again, thank you for all the effort you put into this.

J. G.

Hi J,

Thanks for the kind words, we're glad you found the site. We last posted a new screensaver in early 2006. If you see any pics on this site that you'd like to see in the next screensaver, please let us know.

Dear Webmasters,

Hey, how did Tuc get his nickname?

J.D.

Dear J.D.,

How did Charles Watkins become Tuc Watkins? Well, Tuc's father and grandfather went by the name, "Curt." His parents tried to teach him to say "Curt" when he was little. Apparently, he just couldn't say "Curt" and it would come out, "Tuc." No, Tuc wasn't dyslexic, but like any kid learning how to talk, he didn't say most of the words he was learning correctly. After he said "Tuc," his parents and everyone else just started calling him that and it stuck.

Keep those letters coming! We love hearing from Tuc's fans.
