Tuc Watkins as David Vickers |

In a genre typically known for over-the-top drama and tear-jerking tragedy, Tuc made a rather significant mark playing One Life To Live's David Vickers, one of the funniest villains in daytime television history. "That goofball," as Tuc has affectionately referred to David, was a money-hungry cad who got tangled up on one botched scheme after another. He fraudulently tried to pass himself off as a multimillionaire Victor Lord's heir, bedded, then wed his "sister" Tina (don't worry, she wasn't really his sister), kidnapped his second wife Dorian's niece for money, then tried to divorce her and extort even more out of her, but none of his schemes really panned out in the end. After a two-year stint in OLTL's Llanview, David slunk out of town without much to show for his efforts. Fans missed him dearly though. In early 1996, they awarded Tuc the Soap Digest Award (a fan-voted event) for Outstanding Male Scene Stealer. In late 2001 and early 2002, David briefly returned to the show to cause trouble for Todd (Victor Lord’s real heir), but Todd had him hauled off by the Moroccan police. In August 2003, David returned to Llanview looking for payback. He quickly mellowed, however, and fell in love again with Dorian, with whom he maintained a comical off-and-on relationship for nearly three years. In 2004, David’s long lost brother, Spencer, rolled into town and made David’s life a living hell. Spencer broke up David and Dorian’s relationship and framed David for a murder he actually committed himself. When Spencer was revealed to be the killer in late 2006, David once again took leave of Llanview for other money-making opportunities. He returned to Llanview in the spring/summer of 2007 to take the rap when Spencer was killed under mysterious circumstances, but it was quickly revealed that he’d made a $10 million deal with Llanview tycoon Asa Buchanan to kill Spencer. He hadn’t really done it, but wanted Asa to think he had. He got out of jail, befriended Viki, and donated a portion of his liver to Viki’s ailing daughter Jessica. He left town once again, unaware that Asa (who would die weeks later) was his true father. Rumor has it that David will soon return to discover his fortuitous paternity, so stay tuned… |

"Although OLTL had turned David into a real sleazebag by the time Tuc Watkins finished his [1994-1996] two-year stint, it's a testament to Watkins' talent that viewers continued to enjoy his performance and care about the character nevertheless. As David, Watkins displayed a real knack for physical humor and doling out some wicked--and witty--bon mots..." -- Soap Opera Weekly "Tuc is one of the most delightful people that God has ever put on this earth--one of the most charming and talented actors. He is inventive, he is clever. He brings so much to every scene, and most of what you see on screen was created...by Tuc. It's there in the writing a little bit, but most of it is what Tuc brings to the scenes. I miss him, and I'm hoping he will come back frequently--often, often, often!!!" -- Erika Slezak |
